Online event: “Multilingualism and language learning opportunities”

On Thursday 19^th 2023, our school participated in the online event “Multilingualism and language learning opportunities” organized by The Directorate-General for Translation of the European Commission. All schools in the European Union that had enrolled for the random selection for the Juvenes Translatores contest were invited to the event. The programmeincluded: an inspirational speech by the polyglot Ioanis Ikomonou, a Greek translator who masters 32 languages, and breakout rooms,in English, French, German and Spanish, in which professional translators shared their vision and experiences and replied to students’ questions. Afterthe meeting our learners had the opportunity to reflect on their foreign language proficiency levels, understand the reasons that make foreign languages an important job qualification, and see, first-hand, employment opportunities foreign languages present in general and in the field of translation in particular.
