We are thrilled to announce the exceptional success of our school’s eTwinning project, “Eratosthenes’ Experinment,” which concluded last year. This ambitious project, centered on the life and work of the renowned Greek mathematician and astronomer Eratosthenes, culminated in a remarkable reenactment of his experiment to measure the Earth’s radius during the spring equinox.

The dedication and creativity of our students and teachers were recognized on a national level, as our project was awarded the National Quality Label. We are incredibly proud of this achievement, which reflects the hard work and collaborative spirit of our school community. Moreover, the success of our project extended beyond our borders, as our partner also received national recognition for their contributions. With such outstanding results, we eagerly anticipate the announcement of the European Quality Label.

Building upon this success, we are excited to introduce our new eTwinning project for the upcoming year, “Sine Sole Sileo, Sundials: Without Sun, I lose track of time”. This innovative project will delve into the fascinating history of time measurement, with a particular focus on sundials as the earliest timekeeping devices. Our students will have the opportunity to:

  • Explore the significance of time measurement throughout history.
  • Investigate sundials as the oldest and simplest astronomical tool.
  • Differentiate between solar time and clock time.
  • Study the role of Earth’s movement and meridians in timekeeping.
  • Construct an Analemmatic Sundial in our schoolyard using STEAM and CLIL methods.

This interdisciplinary project will engage students in a wide range of subjects, including:

  • Astronomy
  • Foreign Languages
  • Mathematics/Geometry
  • Physics
  • History
  • Arts

By participating in this project, our students will develop essential 21st-century skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, and creativity. They will also have the opportunity to connect with students from diverse cultural backgrounds and expand their global perspective.

We are excited to collaborate with our partner schools in Romania, Cyprus, Croatia, Turkiye (2 schools) and Greece (2 schools) on this exciting new venture. Together, we will continue to foster a love of learning and inspire our students to reach new heights.
