On Friday, October 25th, all classes of our school visited the Old Monastery of Agios Dionysios in Olympus. During the German occupation, the monastery offered refuge to Greek freedom fighters. For this reason, on April 29, 1943, the Germans blew up the monastery. It has since remained closed as an unbiased witness to the atrocities of Nazism. Inside the half-ruined monastery of St. Dionysius of Olympus, where “nature found its good and sweet hour,” the anniversary of the celebration of October 28, 1940, was celebrated as an exercise of self-consciousness and historical memory.
