We are delighted to announce that Athena Papagianni received the 3rd prize in the 14th Panhellenic Literature Competition which was organized by the Educational Club of Petroupoli under the auspices of Club of Arts – Letters and Sciences of Greece for Unesco.
In this competition secondary students from many schools around Greece took part by submitting one work (either a short story or a poem) on a topic of their choice.
Athena competed with her twelve-line poem Catastrophe which bears a strong social and anti-war message to the readers. Her poem is expected to be published along with the prizewinning works of other students by Dardanos publications.
The headteacher and all the members of the teaching staff would like to congratulate our student wishing her the very best on her literary journey!
Catastrophe
On the dark pages of a once bright story
A pen was writing spilling red,
The blood of innocent souls.
It was writing about hopes,
Unfulfilled desires,
Lives that crumbled
Like a house with no foundations at the mercy of an earthquake
When Fates were spinning the yarn of such a destiny,
Tears had been soaking this golden thread.
From life to death
The most brilliant cities were sinking into darkness,
Gazing at the desolation, embracing the disaster.
