On January 29th, as part of the Holocaust Remembrance events, our school educator, Katerina Efraimidou, was honored with a Commendation of Memory for her contribution to the preservation of memory and the fight against anti-Semitism. The event called ”Memory and Hope”  took place in Athens at the Theatron, Cultural Centre ”Hellenic Cosmos” and was part of a series of events to honour and remember the important historical event. The Attica Region worked with the Athens Jewish Community to organize this captivating event. Representatives from various political parties, religious leaders, and intellectuals were in attendance. In her short speech, Ms. Efraimidou emphasized: “It is a great honor for me to receive this distinction today, on the day of remembrance of the Greek Jewish Martyrs and Heroes of  the Holocaust. As a teacher at the 7th Lyceum of Thessaloniki, I have been participating in the student competition for the Holocaust of the Greek Jews since 2015. The videos we have created serve as excellent teaching tools for students, allowing them to have a deep and experiential learning experience by meeting survivors, researching, and talking to experts. Our videos have won several awards, which allowed us to go on an educational trip to Auschwitz, one of the most important places of memory and sacrifice. This place challenges the very existence of human civilization. Winning this award motivates me to continue strengthening the value of solidarity and fighting against all forms of hatred. I would like to express my gratitude to the Department of Religious Affairs of the Ministry of Education, the Jewish Museum of Greece, and the Israelite Community of Athens for actively supporting the awareness of young people in matters of human rights, respect for diversity, and the defence of human dignity”
